Experience

With more than 40 years of experience over a broad range of industries, Dr. Hoekstra is an expert in industrial engineering, design and management systems. During his career, he has been awarded more than a dozen grants totaling over $1 million from granting agencies such as Daimler Chrysler, U.S. Department of Energy, Florida Energy Office, and NASA Kennedy Space Center, among others. An award-winning producer of industrial training films, Dr. Hoekstra returned to school to earn a Master’s of Design and a PhD in engineering. He holds six U.S. patents, and a number of international patents in the field of alternative fuels for automotive applications and furniture designs for the disabled. Dr. Hoekstra was lead engine designer for several NASCAR teams, including Penske Racing, where he designed race-winning engines for NASCAR champion Rusty Wallace. Dr. Hoekstra currently teaches at the University of Central Florida, both in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Systems, and the School of Visual Arts.
